This panel will provide oversight and perspective in science, technology engineering, and mathematics content (STEM), library and community programming (LCP), science and children’s museum programming and outreach (SMP), and community resource networking (CRN) for the project.

Douglas Clements, Ph.D., SUNY at Buffalo (STEM). Doug is an expert in mathematics for children through grade 2. He has directed several NSF grants and ran the national Conference on Standards for Preschool and Kindergarten Mathematics, which resulted in a book, Engaging Young Children in Mathematics.

John Cole, Director, Center for the Book in the Library of Congress (LCP). John directs a variety of programs and has supported the creation of a national network of state Centers.

Kathleen T. Horning , Association of Library Services to Children/ALA (LCP) K.T. has served on many American Library Association award committees and is part of the CCBC staff in Madison, Wisconsin. She is also the author of From Cover to Cover: Evaluating and Reviewing Children's Books and is former chair of the Newbery Award Committee.

Judy Kass, Senior Project Director, American Association for the Advancement of Science, AAAS (SMP) Judy manages programs that focus on outreach to public libraries and museums to promote public understanding of science and technology and expand educational opportunities.

Roberta Johnson, Ph.D., UCAR, Boulder (STEM) Roberta is the Director of the Education and Outreach program of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research. She has developed a program that reaches out to learners of all ages. Roberta served on the National Advisory Panel for both Mother Goose Asks “Why?” and Mother Goose Cares About Math and Science.

Roger Mitchell, Ed.D., former Vice-President for Education, WHYY-TV, Philadelphia, former Program Officer, NSF (CRN) Roger has extensive professional experience in community-based programming through the National Urban League at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and his service as a Program Officer in Informal Science Education at NSF.

Dennis Schatz, Vice President, Pacific Science Center, Seattle, WA (SMP) Dennis is an author of numerous books for children as well as being a science researcher. He has extensive experience in developing networks in the community.

Carole Talan, Family Literacy Specialist, California State Library (LCP) Carole has been involved for many years both at the state and national level in promoting delivery of literacy services through the public library. She has helped expand Beginning With Mother Goose, Mother Goose Asks “Why?” and You Can Count On Mother Goose.

Karen Worth, Ed.D., Senior Scientist, Education Development Center, Inc (EDC), Wheelock College (STEM). Karen has made important contributions to the standards for science in the early education and elementary setting. Her work includes teaching, research and publications in this field. She served as an Advisor to Mother Goose Cares About Math and Science.
